Unit 3: The Postclassical Era
While this unit covers a shorter span of time than our first unit, it actually contains more information. We will be exploring the inter-regional networks that emerge in the wake of the fall of the classical civilizations. Our main focus will be on the patterns of cultural exchange and the forces that connect the world that will emerge and evolve over these 9 centuries. We will begin with the rise and spread of Islam in Western Asia, and end with the collapse of the Mongols in Central Asia and the fall of Constantinople (now Istanbul) in Europe.
